New for 2008, a superb selection of gourmet lunch locations – choose from the 4 star Chateau Tilques restaurant housed in an old stable building to a famous 1 star michelin restaurant, le Sébastopol, situated in the cosmopolitan city of Lille. Combine a gastronomic “déjeuner” or lunch, as it translates, with a day trip to Lille on the high speed Eurostar rail link from the recently renovated, state of the art, St. Pancras station, or the newly constructed Ebbsfleet International in Kent.

Le Grand Cerf


14 miles from Calais in the small town of Marquise. The chef, ‘Stephane Pruvot’, is renowned throughout the Pas-de-Calais for his inventive use of regional produce. Names of note seem to follow M. Pruvot including Donald Sutherland, Bertrand Tavernier and Bette Midler, for whom he cooked in Paris, to Victor Hugo who, it is said, once sat on the bench outside the old post house that is now this gourmet restaurant.

Hotel Chateau Tilques Restaurant


24 miles from Calais in the village of Tilques, near Saint Omer. The converted stable houses the chic intimate gourmet restaurant, “le Vert Mesnil,” where “la cuisine bougeoise” can be savoured. Overlooking the park there are doors that open out to a lovely terrace during summer months. Fresh and locally sourced produce are served and the chef is proud to present his specialities: foie gras and gingerbread biscuits!

Le Cygne Restaurant


26 miles from Calais in the town of Saint Omer. The owners Stéphanie and Jean-François Wident give a warm welcome to those who choose to dine in their restaurant. They offer traditional and refined regional cuisine with the emphasis being on freshness and creativity. They also have a good choice of French wines.

Le Corsaire Restaurant


27 miles from Calais in the town of Dunkerque, (just minutes from the port where Norfolkline ferries dock). The colourful façade of this excellent restaurant sets the scene for an enjoyable meal. It is set on the quayside opposite the ‘Duchesse Anne’ and offers a good choice of hearty fish and meat dishes and Philippe Olivier cheeses.

Le Compostelle Restaurant


65 miles from Calais in the city of Lille. In a small and very typical street, this restaurant has an elegant, high-ceilinged, glass atrium that provides exceptional light and atmosphere. Refined, gastronomic cuisine, that is beautifully presented, can be enjoyed.

Le Sébastopol Restaurant


65 miles from Calais in the city of Lille. The grand façade fronts a building steeped in history and conceals a peaceful haven in a fine art-deco room that presents a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. Take time to indulge in the traditional and inventive menus that are created by chef Jean-Luc Germond who is a Maitre Cuisinier de France. His is a 1 star michelin restaurant!

Closed every Saturday and Monday lunchtime, and 3 weeks in August.
